Welcome to the White Glove Standard
Course Introduction Welcome to the Elite Off-Premises Event Staffing: The White Glove Standard – Server Certification. This certification has been developed specifically for hospitality professionals who provide service at off-premises catered events. Unlike restaurant service, off-premises events take place in temporary locations where every venue, event layout, and guest experience is unique. As a professional event server, you may work at private residences, weddings, banquet halls, corporate offices, country clubs, outdoor tents, wineries, museums, rooftops, and many other event locations. Every event presents different challenges, but the professional standards remain the same. Throughout this course, you will learn how to prepare for an event, set up buffet stations, communicate professionally with guests and event staff, maintain service areas, support your team, and close an event according to the White Glove Standard. This certification emphasizes professionalism, teamwork, adaptability, safety, communication, and exceptional guest service from the moment you arrive until the final farewell to the host. Whether you are new to hospitality or an experienced event professional, the knowledge and skills presented in this course will help you deliver consistent, high-quality service at any off-premises catered event. We encourage you to complete each lesson in order, successfully pass each module assessment, and apply what you learn during real-world events. By the end of this course, you will have the knowledge and confidence to perform as a professional Off-Premises Event Server while representing your employer and your clients with excellence. We are excited to be part of your professional journey. Welcome to the White Glove Standard.

Module 1: Professional Appearance & Arrival Protocols
Professional service begins long before the first guest arrives. In this module, you will learn how to prepare for an event by presenting yourself professionally, planning your arrival, introducing yourself confidently to the host, and understanding your responsibilities before service begins. A strong first impression builds trust, demonstrates professionalism, and sets the foundation for exceptional guest service throughout the event. Take a moment to review what you have learned, then complete the Module 1 Assessment before moving on to the next module.

Module 2: Buffet Preparation & Professional Service Setup
In this module, you will learn how to evaluate, prepare, and organize a functional buffet station for an off-premises catered event. You will become familiar with the essential equipment used for buffet service, including tables, linens, chafing dishes, water pans, food pans, sternos, serving utensils, plates, napkins, and flatware. You will also learn how to create a safe and efficient guest flow, properly prepare hot and cold food stations, and complete a final inspection before the buffet opens. Because every off-premises event location is different—whether it is a private residence, banquet hall, corporate office, country club, outdoor tent, winery, museum, or other temporary event venue—servers must be prepared to adapt while maintaining the same professional standards. Regardless of the location, every buffet should be safe, clean, organized, accessible, and easy for guests to navigate. Take a moment to review what you have learned, then complete the Module 2 Assessment before moving on to the next module.

Module 3: Guest Service & Professional Communication
In this module, you will learn how to communicate professionally with guests and provide attentive, respectful service throughout an off-premises catered event. You will practice welcoming guests, offering assistance, answering questions, taking beverage and cocktail requests, and communicating clearly with bartenders, hosts, caterers, and other members of the event team. You will also learn how to use professional language, maintain positive body language, respond appropriately when you do not know an answer, and assist guests without becoming intrusive. Because every off-premises event location is different, you will learn how to adapt your communication style while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and hospitality. Real-world scenarios and White Glove service phrases will help you build confidence in common event situations. By the end of this module, you should be able to create a warm and memorable guest experience while professionally representing the host, your company, and the entire event team at any off-premises event. Take a moment to review what you have learned, then complete the Module 3 Assessment before moving on to the next module.

Module 4: Event Maintenance & Teamwork
In this module, you will learn how to maintain a clean, organized, and professional event environment throughout active service at an off-premises catered event. You will practice monitoring and restocking the buffet, clearing guest tables respectfully, managing used items and trash, and responding to routine cleaning needs before they become visible problems. You will also learn how to support bartenders, caterers, and other servers while remaining responsible for your assigned service area. Because off-premises events rely on temporary service stations and constantly changing environments, clear communication, continuous observation, and professional teamwork are essential to maintaining smooth service without interrupting the guest experience. By the end of this module, you should be able to keep service areas guest-ready, anticipate operational needs, adapt to different event locations, and work effectively with the event team from the beginning of service until the event begins to close. Take a moment to review what you have learned, then complete the Module 4 Assessment before moving on to the final module.

Module 5: Professional Event Breakdown & Final Host Experience
In this final module, you will learn how to professionally close an off-premises catered event after active service has ended. You will safely break down the buffet, extinguish chafing dish fuel, organize and store leftover food according to the host’s instructions, clean and sanitize service areas, pack equipment properly, and complete a final walkthrough of the event space. You will also learn how to protect company equipment, verify that nothing has been left behind, and professionally check out with the host before leaving the venue. Because off-premises event teams transport, set up, and remove their own equipment, proper breakdown, organization, and inventory are essential to protecting company assets and ensuring they are ready for the next event. The final moments of an event are just as important as the first impression. A clean departure, organized breakdown, and courteous farewell leave a lasting impression and reflect the highest standards of off-premises event hospitality. Take a moment to review what you have learned, then complete the Module 5 Assessment and the White Glove Final Certification Examination to earn your White Glove Off-Premises Event Server Certification.

White Glove Final Certification Examination
Candidate Instructions Congratulations on completing all five training modules of the Off-Premises Event Server – White Glove Standard™ Certification. This final examination is designed to evaluate your ability to apply the White Glove Standard throughout a complete off-premises event—from professional arrival and temporary service setup to guest service, event maintenance, breakdown, final inspection, and professional checkout. Please read each question and all available answer choices carefully before selecting your response. Examination Guidelines The examination consists of 30 questions. Questions include scenario-based multiple-choice questions and True/False questions. Some scenarios require you to apply knowledge and professional standards from multiple course modules. Choose the BEST answer—not simply an answer that may be partially correct. When evaluating each situation, consider guest and staff safety, professional communication, role boundaries, teamwork, property protection, and the approved event plan. A minimum score of 80% is required to pass the examination and earn your certification. Once the examination has been submitted, your answers cannot be changed. Examination Attempts You are allowed a maximum of three (3) attempts to successfully complete this examination. If you do not achieve the required passing score after your third attempt, you will need to review the course materials before requesting another examination attempt, in accordance with your training provider’s policies. Professional Reminder Take your time and think through each scenario carefully. The goal of this examination is not simply to test memorization. It is designed to evaluate your ability to apply professional judgment and make responsible decisions using the White Glove Standard in realistic off-premises event situations. Remember that the fastest response is not always the most professional response. Choose the action that best protects safety, respects the approved event plan, supports the guest experience, and resolves the situation completely. Good luck, and thank you for your commitment to professional off-premises event service.
